ABOUT THE ROCK

OUR MISSION

OUR MISSION
BUILDING SOLID LIVES

"Whoever comes to Me, and hears My sayings and does them, I will show you whom he is like: He is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently against that house, and could not shake it, for it was founded on the rock."

Luke 6:47-48

STATEMENT OF FAITH

WHAT WE BELIEVE

The Eternal God

We believe that God is a three-person being: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
(II Corinthians 13:14)

The Fall of Man

We believe that humans were created in the image of God, but fell from perfection and relationship with God by voluntary disobedience.
(Romans 5:12)

The Plan of Salvation

We believe that while we were still sinners Christ died in our place; paying for all of our sins ‚ past, present and future.
(John 3:16; Romans 5:8)

Salvation Through Grace

We believe that salvation comes only through Jesus by God's grace and our faith ‚ not by our good works.
(Ephesians 2:8)

The Holy Spirit

We believe the Holy Spirit is the Person and the Power by which assistance and ability are given for serving and for sharing the life of God with others.
(Acts 1:8; 2:4)

The Spirit-filled Life

We believe that it is the will of God for believers to be led and empowered daily by the Holy Spirit.
(Ephesians 4:30-32)

The Fruit of the Spirit

We believe that a Christian should show spiritual fruit, such as love, as evidence of a Spirit-filled life.
(Galatians 5:22)

Divine Healing

We believe that divine healing is the power of Jesus Christ to heal in answer to the prayer of faith.
(James 5:14-16)

The Second Coming of Christ

We believe that the second coming of Christ is personal and imminent.

Church Relationship

We believe that it is a believer's duty to identify and regularly assemble with other believers in a local church.
(Acts 16:5; Hebrews 10:25)

Civil Government

We believe that authorities should be obeyed at all times except when things oppose the will of God.
(Romans 13:1-5)

The Final Judgment

We believe that all shall stand some day before God to be judged; and there receive eternal life or eternal death.
(II Corinthians 5:10)

Heaven

We believe that heaven is the beautiful and eternal home of born-again believers.
(John 14:1-3; Revelation 7:15-17)

Hell

We believe that hell is a literal place of eternal torment for all who reject Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.
(Revelation 20:10, 15)

Evangelism

We believe that winning people to Jesus is the most important responsibility of every believer.
(James 5:20)

Tithes and Offerings

We believe that the method designed by God for the support and spread of His cause is the giving of tithes and free-will offerings.
(Malachi 3:10;II Corinthians 9:7)

The Bible

We believe that the Bible is God's Word, and not only contains truth but is truth.

(II Timothy 3:16, 17)

The Gifts of the Holy Spirit

We believe that the Holy Spirit has supernatural abilities to distribute to Christians.
(I Corinthians 12:1-11)

Repentance and Acceptance

We believe that by sincerely turning away from sin and whole-heartily accepting Jesus as Lord, one is made right before God.
(II Peter 3:9; Romans 10:9, 10)

The New Birth

We believe that each one who receives Jesus becomes a new person inside.
(II Corinthians 5:17; Galatians 2:20)

Water Baptism

We believe that all new believers should be baptized in water to publicly announce their new faith in Jesus Christ.
(Matthew 28:19)

Daily Christian Life

We believe that God expects and Christians should desire to live in obedience to God's Word.

(James 1:22)

The Lord's Supper/Communion

We believe that Christians should partake of bread and grape juice as symbols, to remember what Christ accomplished for them on the cross.
(Luke 22:19, 20)

Moderation

We believe that a believer's daily walk and experience should never lead into extremes of fanaticism.

(Philippians 4:5)

ELDERS

Jack Hayford

Dr. Jack Hayford is The Rock’s apostolic elder and serves as Chancellor of The Kings University (formerly The King's College and Seminary) in Los Angeles and Dallas, which he founded in 1997. From 2004 to 2009, he also served as President of The International Church of the Foursquare Gospel. He is probably best known, however, as "Pastor Jack," founding pastor of The Church On The Way in Van Nuys, California, where he served as senior pastor for more than three decades. A prolific and best-selling writer, Pastor Hayford is the author (or co-author) of more than fifty books and has composed 500 hymns and choruses, including the internationally known and widely recorded "Majesty."

He is an acknowledged "bridge-builder," helping to forge healthy bonds among all segments of the Body of Christ. He is recognized for his balance in preaching God's word, avoiding extremes while not diluting or compromising the demands of truth. Pastor Jack's heart to bring unity across all denominational and racial boundaries has given him an open door to minister in all kinds of settings.

Dr. Hayford and his wife Anna have four children, eleven grandchildren, and a growing number of great-grandchildren.

Leslie Keegel

Dr. Leslie Keegel is The Rock’s prophetic elder and the National Leader of The Foursquare Church Sri Lanka. He is also founder-president of Colombo, Sri Lanka’s LIFE Bible Institute, which has more than 1,000 students in training.

Under his leadership, the number of Foursquare churches in Sri Lanka grew from two in 1983 to more than 1,700 meeting places today, and Foursquare Sri Lanka has become a missionary-sending organization to India, the Middle East,

Europe and other locations.

Dr. Keegel is also the chairman of the Eastern Council of Foursquare Churches, a fellowship in the Asia-Pacific Region that covers more than 30 nations and represents 26,000 churches.

Leslie and his wife Belen pastor Living Way Church in Colombo, the headquarters of The Foursquare Church in Sri Lanka. In addition, they were recently appointed as the Senior Associate Pastors of Living Way, a Foursquare Church in Bellflower, CA. They have three adult daughters and two granddaughters.

DIAMOND STANDARDS

DIAMOND STANDARDS

Though Diamonds are the hardest substance on earth, they are known for their beauty and brilliance. Our “Diamond Standards” are key elements that we endeavor to pursue as a whole church. This way, we are not only solid lives but we are letting God’s light reflect through us and show His beauty.

Mission

We build solid lives by participating in services, discipleship and ministry.

Vision

We all pray for and passionately pursue the fulfillment of our vision as direction from the Lord.

Value God's Presence

We genuinely worship God and minimize distractions during services, including early and unnecessary exits.

Ministry Community

We serve consistently in a ministry but take time to be a community.

3-Minute Rule

We invest at least the first three minutes following each service interacting with new or unfamiliar people to welcome them to The Rock.

David Generation

Kids and Youth ministries are primary, not secondary or babysitting. We’re raising up an army of world changers and giant slayers.

Trustworthiness

We represent Jesus Christ and The Rock both at, and away from, church and therefore constantly strive to improve our character and competence.

Teamwork

We sacrifice personal preferences to advance God’s kingdom together (e.g. parking spaces, ministry roles, comfortzones).

Graciousness

We smile, keep good eye contact and communicate to everyone with courtesy and respect (e.g. “good morning,” “thank you,” “I’ll be happy to” and “my pleasure”). Everyone receives many warm greetings and pleasant goodbyes.

Love

We maintain an atmosphere of love and acceptance–even with unreasonable people. We first listen to people to understand, then respond to be understood.

Unity

We resolve conflicts quickly with gracious yet forthright communication to the appropriate individuals, not by complaining to others. We do not criticize our leaders, team, congregation, other ministers or ministries… ever!

Punctuality

We arrive early and start on time. When we cannot fulfill our scheduled responsibilities, we give a willing and “trustworthy” person sufficient notice to cover for us, and communicate to our overseers.

Extraordinary Service

We strive to notice – and even anticipate – the needs of others. We escort and introduce people to the right persons and places rather than pointing or directing them.

Cleanliness

We take responsibility to keep God’s house clean (e.g. we never pass by trash, facilities are left clean and organized). We present ourselves as representatives of God’s kingdom (e.g. hygiene, clean clothes, and fresh breath).

Safety

We maintain a safe and accident-free environment. We attend to and report all injuries immediately to assure proper care and documentation (Incident Reports).

Pastoral Care

We immediately report urgent matters regarding people in our congregation to the church office or the “pastor on call” (not the church voice mail) to assure prompt pastoral care.

Stewardship

We endeavor to do everything with excellence. We protect God’s resources by conserving energy and supplies and properly maintaining and locking our facilities and equipment.

Faith

We do a lot with a little and expect the impossible because our God is always faithful!

A Thankful People

We are thankful to the Lord, even in adversity. We will not allow ourselves to forget His goodness.

Joy

We spread joy, have fun and make things fun for others.

Rejoice Always

We sing and rejoice in the Lord at all times.
